
First Grade
First graders explore various communities and the concepts
of cultural diversity, safety, cooperation, and conflict
resolution. They learn about the importance of rules,
and making and keeping friends.

SECOnd Grade
In second grade the social studies curriculum examines
the greater Salt Lake valley. Students learn about
the various ethnic and cultural groups that comprise
Salt Lake County. An introduction to city and county
government is included, as is a study of Native Americans
in Utah.
Third Grade
Students study seven continents with emphasis on history,
citizenship, government, culture, geography, economics,
current events, oceans, and map skills.
Third grade students research and present biographies
of historical figures.
Fourth Grade
Fourth graders study Utah physical features and engage in mapping exercises and
projects. They study Utah history, from prehistoric to present day and learn
about state government. |
Fifth Grade
The fifth grade social studies curriculum explores
events leading up to and including the Age of Exploration,
the Colonial Period, the Revolutionary War, and
origins of the Civil War. Geography skills focus
on interpreting various types of maps and developing
mapping skills such as understanding latitude and
longitude, map scale, keys and legends, and the location
of continents and major bodies of water. Students
learn about government, the U.S.
states and capitals.
