RHSM’s Middle School, grades six through eight, forms a bridge between the child-centered approach of the Lower School and the curricular emphasis of the Upper School. Middle School students have a high energy level and enjoy participating in school and community activities. Young adolescents need and want positive relationships with peers and adults, increased levels of autonomy with structure and clear limits, and opportunities to achieve competence and success. RHSM’s Middle School program of core curricular subjects augmented by exploratory classes and electives was developed with these needs and concerns in mind. Teachers recognize that students have a variety of learning styles; consequently, our curriculum is made up of content, skills, and personal development activities, which include many opportunities to interact with other members of the class. Teachers also recognize the importance of giving students confidence as emerging learners and encouraging students to contribute to class discussions and learn from each other.
